Shaman Bell Chime – Brass 5 cm – For Shaman Drum and Costume

This shaman bell chime consists of 1 steel ring with 3 brass conical pendants. The pendants measure ~5 cm in length and the ring is ~1.8 cm diameter. After some time in motion rubbing together, the coating may wear slightly which will give them a unique two-tone look. They can be cleaned and shined by using a mixture of ash and water to remove any corrosion and tarnish that naturally happens on the surfaces of metals over time. Note that these are not bells with a clapper inside that rocks back and forth. They make sounds entirely from the metal jingling together like keys on a key ring.
These were handmade by a craftsman at a local market in Mongolia.

In Mongolia these are called kholbogo /Холбого/ and are usually attached on shamanic costumes or drum. They symbolise a link between the spiritual realm, the physical realm and the realm of the ancestors as well as a link between the upper, middle, and lower worlds. These are used to ward off evil spirits and to call one’s own helpers and guardian spirits. The jingling of these conical pendants also symbolises the shaman’s voice, which, too, scares away evil forces. All the shaman’s equipment represents the sacred present moment, and is imbued with the spirits. The conical shape represent on the one hand a pathway to expel negative energy away in the case of a cleaning or healing ritual, and on the other hand a way to begin something (such as a wedding, a new work, building a new home, etc…) with more strength and positive energy. For this reason, they can also be considered as symbolic arrows.
Outside of their primary purpose they can be used decoratively on necklaces, amulets, and key chains or as a part of ritualistic musical instruments.
