Brass Shaman Eyes Set Pin – White

One set of brass shaman eye pins with white pupil. They are stamped from a brass sheet, have a stone-like inset (in vinyl), and the pin hooks welded on after. They are polished to be shiny on the front. Each eye is around 5 cm width and 3 cm height.
This eye set was handmade by a craftsman at a local market in Mongolia.

In Mongolia, they are called Melmii /Мэлмий/ and are a symbolic representation of the eyes of the spirit or ongod /онгод/ of the shaman. There are various types of Melmii, some with eyebrow, some without, some with a coloured pupil, some in metal only. The pupil was originally in precious stone, but in our case it is a replica of stone made in vinyl.
The eyes are usually set on the headset of a ritual clothing by using the pin on the back to attach to the fabric. You can also use these as a general pin or decoration of any clothing, bag, or purse. The pins on the back are sharp, so they can punch through fabric and then are bent flat to keep the eye in place.

Usually the colour or shape of the ornaments do not have a proper meaning or symbolism, as their purpose is to mimic or reproduce the look of the spirit or ongod of the shaman in order to make the connection smoother and easier. You can thus choose any which feel right to you.
