How to Participate
The challenge happens on our DISCORD server and only users with @UUGUUL Altruist or @UUGUUL Teegch roles can participate in the challenge. To join the challenge you can react on the video of the melody you choose (on Discord). This will allow us to add you to the leaderboard, and your entry will be definitive once you submit your video on week 7 (via wetransfer or the way you like through email). The videos will then all be uploaded in the dedicated channel once the submission delay is over.
The @UUGUUL Altruist role is obtained by subscribing on the website via the Donate page.
The @UUGUUL Teegch role is obtained by purchasing the Morin Khuur courses and following them.
Structure of the Challenge
The challenge happens in season, one season lasting for a year. Every two months we will challenge ourselves to learn a melody (choice between one urtiin duu, or one tatlaga / bii). The two months of one round are structured as explained below:

NB: Between each round, we suggest the challengers to alternate from one genre to the other. For example, if you choose a tatlaga on the first round, try to choose an urtiin duu on the second. The goal being to enrich our repertoire and also understand the morin khuur playing in a broad manner.
NB2: You are free to choose a melody from the previous rounds if you like it better than the one suggested in the current round.
During the last 2 months of the year, we will use one month to do an extra video, of your choice from the 5 melodies learned and will compile all submissions into one “GALA CONCERT” which will be published on Youtube!
How to Score
As the goal of this challenge is to push everyone to learn and progress, there is not any beginner or advanced rank. You compete with yourself, from one round to the next. The performance is rated on 6 aspects:
- Intonation
- Bowing
- Dexterity
- Nuance
- Charisma
- and overall Flow.
Compared to the previous performance, for each of these aspects you will earn:
- 0 point if you got worse.
- 5 points if you kept at the same level.
- 10 points if you improved.
As mentioned above you will also have the opportunity to ask for 2 feedbacks. Each of these, if requested, will get you 10 extra points. You will also earn an extra 10 points if you “thumb up” one or more other challenger. Finally, you will also earn 1 point per thumb reaction received on your performance.
